Self-made, preparation training for Test 000-371: Web Services Development for IBM WebSphere Application Server V7.0

Tomorrow I’m running a self-made, preparation training for Test 000-371: Web Services Development for IBM WebSphere Application Server V7.0. The idea is to provide enough information for the students of the Warsaw University of Technology so they’re ready to pass the test which is the sole requirement for IBM Certified Solution Developer – Web Services Development for WebSphere Application Server V7.0.

I’ve been tasked to prepare it myself with all the weird ideas that have been floating around my head for a while. The content should complement what’s freely available in the Internet and be taught in a highly interactive fashion. The main issue I usually face while running a course is how to manage the diverse level of experience of each participant. I don’t want leave anyone behind and neither do I want to spoil the course trying to put much effort for a few edge cases when their experience is too low comparing to the rest of the class and moreover doesn’t fulfill the course’s prerequisites. That’s what has worried me a lot recently during courses. I think I have found a solution.

I’m going to provide a material with not much explanation upfront – just a few slides will do. There’ll be a accompanying virtual image with IBM Rational Application Developer 8.0.1 and IBM WebSphere Application Server V7 and V8 installed.

I’ll begin explaining the tools and let the students work on some preliminary exercises from the articles and the redbooks mentioned in the Training resources for the Test 000-371. I’ll start with the Part 2. Developing and deploying Web services of IBM WebSphere Application Server V7.0 Web Services Guide. That shall give them a nice introduction to the course, me to find out what people already know, how they cope with absorbing a new material and let everybody read the articles that many used to mark as to be read that in fact turns out as not to be read ever for luck of time and effort.

I’ll see how it works out soon. I and the students can always go down to running the regular course – WD506 Web Service Development for IBM WebSphere Application Server V7, but that’d be my personal failure.
